History of the Griffin Trust

In 1962 the Hooton Park site was bought by Vauxhall motors for their car factory. The site included the former RAF Hooton Park military airbase with three World War I hangars and associated buildings. In 1990 Vauxhall Motors agreed to lease much of the old RAF Hooton Park site to a new charity to be founded and based there - The Griffin Trust. Soon after founding the aircraft hangars were given listed building status and we began restoring aircarft and vehicles for our collection. In 1999 Vauxhall motors applied for permission to demolish the site however permission was refused after a local campaign spearheaded by The Griffin Trust. In 2000 The Griffin Trust were asked by the Hooton Park Trust to relocate from the Aircraft Hangars to two Motor Transport sheds on the same site. The motor sheds were in a state of disprepair and were renovated by 2007.
